Joel’s (formerly Lyle’s) commuter

This is #1 – the frame I built with Paul at the Framebuilding 101 course at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2015. It was my first attempt at a bike with 220mm cranks. With my height also comes weight – 245 lbs – so, we beefed this thing up: straight gauge, 1.1 mm x 35 mm downtube! It’s a rock. It handles so well though. With a rando bag and two front panniers on, I could descend a very rough fire road into Port Alberni at speed without thinking twice about the bike. I just had to look in the direction I wanted to go and it would follow my lead! Glad it went to a good home.
